What to Do in Ottawa: Weekend Preview November 13-15

I think we’re all a little bit surprised to look at our calendars and see that it’s mid-November already. How is your Christmas shopping coming along? Is your NFL team still in contention? Celebrate the good times or distract your woes away by attending one or more of the great events around town this weekend. Here’s what’s happening in Ottawa:

Signatures Show

If you’re savvy, you could wrap up your Christmas shopping in one visit to the Signatures Show at the Shaw Centre in downtown Ottawa. Running from November 11th until November 15th, more than 180 Canadian artisans, artists, and designer will showcase their works. Find the perfect present for the special someone, with handcrafted products, fashion, body care, jewellery, fine art, home decor, specialty foods, and much, much more! With door prizes, giveaways, and plenty of great surprises, you’re in for a treat. Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for seniors and youth, while children 12 and under are free.

Ottawa Pet Expo

Dog lovers and cat fanciers…have we got the event for you – the Ottawa Pet Expo! Don’t worry, birds, rats, rabbits, and more are welcome too, however you MUST fill out a waiver form if you plan to bring a pet. What can you expect at the Ottawa Pet Expo, which runs on Saturday and Sunday at the EY Centre? There will be over 132 exhibitors displaying their products and services. There will be Dock Diving demonstrations, flyball competitions, exhibits of exotic animals, tropical fish, and reptiles, a photo booth, and a kidzone. Admission is $15 (which includes a $2 donation to the Ottawa Humane Society). Kids 12 and under are free. There will be free parking for attendees on Sunday between 10am and 2pm!

Ottawa-Gatineau Tattoo Expo

The Ottawa-Gatineau Tattoo Expo takes place at the Hilton Lac Leamy this weekend. Get that tattoo you’ve been dreaming about from an all-star tattoo artist. Enter yourself in a contest for Best Tattoo of the Day, enjoy a show, and so much more. A “Scout” day pass is $20, a “Spartan” full-weekend pass is $50, while the ultimate passport with unlimited access to boths, shows, awards, and after-parties plus an exclusive promotional package is $90.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats versus Toronto Argonauts

Why would Ottawa sports fans care about a Sunday afternoon playoff matchup between the Argos and Ti-Cats? When the REDBLACKS clinched first in the Eastern Conference with a win over Hamilton last week, it gave them a bye to the East Final. Who they play at TD Place on Sunday, November 22 for a ticket to the 103rd Grey Cup will be determined by this game. So REDBLACKS fans should head out to their favourite Elgin Street pub, cozy up at one of the many great restaurants at Lansdowne Park, or invite friends over for the 1 PM kickoff.
