New Year’s Eve in Ottawa

New Year’s Eve in Ottawa

Many of us prefer to spend New Year’s Eve in a rather quiet manner, in the company of good friends and family, perhaps enjoying a glass of champagne as we watch Ryan Seacrest and crew cue up the ball drop in Times Square. But for those who want a wild New Year’s Eve to remember, there are great parties being hosted all across the city. Here are some of the more unique and festive parties around Ottawa:

Sparks Street Maple Drop

It might be chilly, but the entertainers and atmosphere of Spark Street on New Year’s Eve will make it worthwhile. Canadian country star Tim Hicks performs, and with great food from Spark Street venues and music from DJ 8barz, you’ll have a blast that is capped off by the dropping of the Maple Leaf at midnight followed by a fireworks display. Great Canadian fun!

Mad Hatter’s Ball

The EY Centre is host to the Mad Hatter’s Ball as you “tumble through the rabbit hole” into 2015. This is no cheap event, with tickets starting at $85 and rising to $1000 for VIP packages. Dress in upscale attire and prepare for a lavish evening as we count down the hours until 2015. With performances by live bands and cirque entertainers, fantastic food and cocktails, this is no ordinary tea party.

NYE Club Crawl 2015

For the younger crowd (of legal drinking age), this wild club crawl takes you to NYE parties at four of Ottawa’s hottest clubs. More than 10,000 students participated in last year’s festivities across the country, packing the mobile party buses and keeping dance floors bustling. Tickets are $90 and include access and transportation to Pub 101, Cabin, Liquor Store, and more. With a pass you don’t have to pay any cover charges and skip all lines. Perfect for the energetic young partier.

Y2K Country

It’s certainly not paced like rural life, but for those who want a taste of country music, the Cabin is the place to be. Tickets are $15, so don your best plaid shirts, cowboy boots and cowboy hats and head to the market for a night of awesome music, drinks, and company. Dance away the minutes until the clock strikes midnight and a new country era kicks off.

Sens House New Year’s Eve

Calling all hockey fans, there is no better place to be on New Year’s Eve than the Sens House! The action starts at 1pm, as the first of four World Junior games kicks off. But things really heat up with the 4pm faceoff between Canada and USA, a New Year’s Eve tradition. Sens House is offering a special $39.99 package that includes tickets to an upcoming Ottawa Senators game against the Tampa Bay Lighting, one alcoholic drink, and one appetizer. It’s a great package and a great event for hockey fans across the city!

New Year’s Eve in the Palace of Prince Orlovsky

If you want an elegant and classy celebration for New Year’s Eve, this party likely hits the spot. The Viennese-themed night takes place at the historic St. Bartholomew’s church, and features a talented string quartet and accomplished singers performing the best waltz and more. Some of the composers to be featured include Johan Strauss, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Franz Lehar. Tickets are $100, so come travel back in time and enjoy waltzing until midnight.

Whether you choose to celebrate with a quiet home party or one of the wild events listed here, we wish all UpFront readers a Happy New Year and an amazing 2015!
