Tractor-Trailer Truck Crash Causes Huge Delays on 417

There are major delays for drivers who travel using Hwy. 417 near the Nicholas interchange on Thursday morning.

Only one eastbound lane is open after a tractor-trailer truck slammed into a construction barrier this morning. The truck climbed the barrier, also hitting a hydro pole and taking down the wires. All lanes had been closed for over an hour after the crash, which happened at about 5:20 a.m.

Police say it could be “several hours” before all the lanes can be reopened.

The crash is one of two major overnight collisions. In the east end, a car slammed into a tree along Orléans Blvd., early this morning. Two men are in hospital with serious injuries.

On Hwy. 417 as of 7:45 a.m., MTO traffic cameras show extensive traffic backups, with some vehicles rerouting onto Nicholas and others pulling off the highway at interchanges approaching the crash scene.

Westbound lanes are open, but there are major slowdowns as drivers slow down at the crash scene.

Police ask drivers to avoid this area if possible, or make alternate travel arrangements.They also ask anyone who may have any information about this incident to contact investigators at 613-270-9171.
