Local Business Profile: Scheel Window & Door

My husband and I were first time home buyers this past fall. There’s a certain magic to being a first time home buyer, a certain element of “wow we’ve really grown up now!” and a certain weight of responsibility. We were so excited about owning our first house that the few little annoyances we noticed didn’t seem to bother us that much. Until the arrival of our ghost…

Ok not a ghost, but a very annoying air leak in our front door that made a haunting ghost-like sound woosh through our house at any sign of wind. Since I was home all day on maternity leave, it affected me the most. I would sit day in and day out and be so annoyed with the ghostly sounds that I swear I was going a bit mad. The front entrance way was freezing! Heat was escaping as fast as the cold was coming in. Basically it was incredibly unpleasant and I had had enough.

When Spring finally came I decided to take action and get a professional in here to help us fix this ghost problem. I called Scheel Window and Door, told them my sob story and they sympathized and sent someone within a day or two to come assess our door problems. It turns out that the entire frame was warped out of shape and there was no quick fix to the door. To eliminate the ghost problem we needed a new door and frame. I was willing to accept these terms as long as they promised I would never be haunted by the door ghost again!

The man who came to do the estimate took a few minutes to look at the door. He took a few measurements and sat down to do some quick calculations. He did all of this with the skill and speed of someone who has years of experience in the industry. Within a few minutes we had discussed door options, glass options and price options. Needless to say I wanted him to stay and do the job right here right now but that was my frustration over our door ghost taking over me.

My husband and I were very pleased with the quote and immediately hired them. One thing we thought was very cool was that we got to pick out our own door knob. It sounds like a mundane task, but it proved to be the most exciting trip to Home Hardware! As a mom I am constantly forgetting things when I leave the house, and house keys were almost always one of those things. With the freedom to pick our own door knob set we were able to choose one that has a built in keypad for easy code locking and unlocking. Wow. My life changed in that instant! Suddenly we could leave the house without even thinking “hmm where are the house keys”, instead with the push of a few buttons we could lock and unlock our house with a secure deadbolt.

The day Scheel Window and Door came to install the new door was a very exciting day indeed. My daughter and I sat and watched the action from in the living room. The workers moved quickly and efficiently. Within a few hours I had my new door, my new keypad door knob AND best of all the ghost was gone! It very well may have been one of the happiest days of my life (don’t underestimate the power a constant whistle from a leaky door can have over you). The workers gave me a quick tutorial on how to use my fancy new door knob and had the place cleaned up in record time. The entire process was easy and pleasant as the customer.

Any phone calls I had with Scheel Window and Door were always professional with a little hint of homey warmth you only get from a small company. I have recommended them to my friends and will continue to do so for years to come!
