The Ottawa Senators were able to rest and relax this week thanks to the NHL All-Star Game, but Bobby Ryan and rookie Mike Hoffman represented the team over the weekend in Columbus. In Saturday’s Skills Competition, Mike Hoffman narrowly lost to Tampa Bay Lightning rookie Jonathan Drouin in the fastest skater competition. Bobby Ryan was outdueled by the crossbar in the accuracy competition. Ryan notched a goal and an assist in Sunday’s All-Star Game, though his Team Foligno fell 17-12 to Team Toews.
The Senators are back on the ice Thursday night, as they welcome back longtime Sens superstar and former captain Jason Spezza. The homestand against Western Conference opponents continues on Saturday as they welcome the Phoenix Coyotes.
67’s captain Travis Konecny participated in the CHL Top Prospects game last week, as he led Team Orr to a 6-0 victory over Team Cherry with two goals and an assist. Konency was forced to sit out the Ottawa 67’s’ lone game this week, serving the last of a two-game suspension. Ottawa prevailed in a 2-0 win, with a solid 23-save shutout for backup Leo Lazarev. The 67’s have a jam-packed week, with home games against the Oshawa Generals (Tuesday), Sarnia Sting (Friday), and Erie Otters (Sunday). They travel to Peterborough on Saturday for a game against the Petes.
In a shocking upset, Windsor defeated the Carleton Ravens men’s basketball team 74-71 this weekend. Though the Ravens returned to the win column against Western (98-61), the loss dropped the Ravens record to 11-2. The GeeGees, meanwhile, remain unbeaten at 13-0 thanks to wins against the same team. On the women’s side, Ottawa has an 8-5 record while the Ravens struggle at 6-7.
In women’s ice hockey, both teams continue to struggle as they sit at the bottom of the RSEQ division. Ottawa lost to the University of Montreal while the Ravens got beaten 6-1 by Concordia. The men’s Ravens sit second in the OUA East Division at 17-5.
