What to Do In Ottawa: Weekend Preview November 28-30

Get out and enjoy the last weekend of November! Here are some great events happening this weekend in Ottawa:

Nature Nocturne: One in a Billion

This Friday night, the Museum of Nature hosts its monthly dance party. The month’s theme is “One in a Billion,” a celebration of individuality and personal expression. Tickets are $25 to dance the night away in an awesome atmosphere with great music, great drinks, and great company. Your ticket includes access to food, intriguing exhibitions about carrier pigeons which once flocked by the billions, and of course access to the dance floor all night long.

Ottawa 67’s versus  Petes, Rangers

The Ottawa 67’s kick of a home-and-home series with the Peterborough Petes tonight at TD Arena. The 67’s have struck a nice rhythm after a tough start to the season, and now sit in a competitive position, 4th in the Eastern Conference, but the Peterborough Petes are nipping at their heels. On Sunday afternoon, the 67’s will host the Kitchener Rangers, who sit 4th in the West. If captain Travis Konecny and sniper Dante Salituro can bring the offense, it could be a big weekend for the Ottawa junior team.

A Barnyard Bazaar

Tis the season for fantastic and unique Christmas shopping destinations. A Barnyard Bazaar offers a unique twist; not only can you bring the kids to tour the animal exhibits and learn about Canadian agriculture, but you can get in some awesome seasonal shopping at the same time. Visit the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum at the Experimental Farm this Saturday to buy delicious goods ranging from wild boar to maple syrup and herbal teas, pick up hand-crafted jewellery, or find unique gifts for children.

Pakenham Country Christmas

Leave the hustle and bustle of the city for the day by traveling west on the 417 to Pakenham, Ontario. This charming community is hosting an all-day Country Christmas celebration, with everything from breakfast with Santa to Christmas story time, caroling, and sipping hot chocolate. There is a fun and unique craft fair, pony rides for the kids, and even an elf hunt. This is a fun day to get the whole family into the Christmas spirit, don’t miss it!

EU Film Festival

This weekend is the last chance to “tour the European Union with the silver screen” as part of the 29th annual European Union Film Festival. Playing this weekend at the auditorium at Library and Archives Canada, don’t miss the chance to catch movies from Sweden, Spain, Latvia, Romania, and the Netherlands. All movies are subtitled in English, and general admission is $12 with discounts available for students, seniors and Canadian Film Institute members.
