Where to Watch a FIFA Women’s World Cup Game in Ottawa

Ok, so it goes without saying that the best place to catch a FIFA Women’s World Cup game is from your seat at TD Place Stadium surrounded by 24,000 rowdy soccer fans. Ottawa is host to Group B of the tournament for the next couple weeks. Germany, Norway, Thailand, and Côte d’Ivoire duke it out for a spot in the knockout stage of the tournament. But if you didn’t manage to nab tickets or you want to watch out-of-town games featuring teams like Canada, the United States, England, and France, nothing’s stopping you from having a blast with friends and fellow soccer fans at some of the best pubs and restaurants in the Ottawa area.

We’ve asked some soccer fans their favourite spots to watch the game, and here’s what they said:

I’d have to say St. Louis Wings on Elgin Street. To me Elgin Street is the best place to take in any sporting event in Ottawa, whether it’s a Sens playoff game or a Jays game. It’s not a huge place but it’s a great atmosphere and they’ve got plenty of TVs and a big projection screen. Their pulled pork sandwich is so flavourful and goes along really well with a pint of Canadian. – Ashley M., 31

How about hitting up Hometown Sports & Grill on Bank Street? This place used to be Local Heroes, but they renovated and there are TVs all over the place. They’ve got a sweet selection of beers, probably one for each team playing. We like to grab some apps, especially the deep fried pickles…legit! – Jamie S., 24

Woody’s has a hidden back patio, it’s really private and gives you the feeling that you’re hanging at a friend’s decked out back patio. One side of the patio is bordered with a white brick wall, and the pub uses it as a backdrop, projecting sports games onto it. For a fresh summer meal, try one of Woody’s signature wraps with a nice cold beer. –  Zoe S., 24

This new Clocktower restaurant features all of the in-house brews you love and has a spacious front patio. If you like to keep up with the score but don’t want to be cooped-up, the Clocktower patio is the place for you! With TVs not too far out of eyesight, you can keep up with the score while catching up with friends. -Jenny F., 27

Whenever there is a big game approaching I send all of my friends a Facebook invitation to come watch it at my place. We make a big deal out of it and everyone is assigned something to bring. As the host I usually supply the beverages and finger foods. There’s nothing more enjoyable then watching a good sporting game at your own house with your closest friends. – Lia B., 25

My favourite go to place to watch any sporting event is Boston Pizza. Often enough they have plenty of seating on the bar side, just remember to get there early! With a large projector, and many televisions mounted to the walls you usually have a good view from anywhere you’re sitting. The staff is usually quite accommodating if you have any special requests which could include dietary restrictions or special needs. If you go, definitely try out the Cactus Cut Potatoes, or the Thai Chicken Bites. – Charlotte A., 19
