What to Do in Ottawa: Weekend Preview September 5-7

Thanks to a four-day workweek following Labour Day, the weekend is finally here! Here is a preview of some events going on in the Ottawa area this weekend.

Capital Velo Rally

This bike rally is a fun combination of two great activities – biking and trivia! Following a 20km loop, this full day of biking and fun team activities is a unique way to spend a Saturday. It begins at 8 Lock’s Flat restaurant at 8:30am Saturday; though registration has closed, why not head out to the canal and cheer on the teams?

Mosaika

This sound and light show on Parliament Hill, which has been running since late July, ends this weekend. The free bilingual show, explores Canada’s “physical, historical and cultural landscapes” through a “powerful narrative set against the background of Parliament Hill.” Don’t miss the chance to watch the final two shows (Friday and Saturday night at 9pm) before the event closes!

House of PainT Festival

This hip-hop festival celebrating urban arts and culture runs this weekend on Bronson. Featuring live music, dancing, art, poetry, graffiti, DJ battles and much more, this festival is energetic and features something for everyone. Prices vary, visit the festival’s website for exact event times and pricing details.

Russell Fair

To escape the hustle and bustle of the city, consider visiting the Russell Fair, which runs this weekend. The fair southeast of Ottawa features everything from a reptile zoo to a demolition derby, and features the usual fair foods and attractions. A great change of pace!

Latin-American Festival

The Latin-American Festival kicks off with a free parade on Sunday afternoon along Wellington Street downtown. Following the parade, the festival will occur Sunday night at City Hall. Come enjoy the authentic sights, sounds, and tastes of Latin-America in a lively atmosphere!
